Amazing collection in the diocese

11 Caritas Parish (Agrigento Porto Empedocle, Raffadali, Sciacca and San Giovanni Gemini) and more than 100 volunteers who played the gathering in 36 supermarkets.
These are the numbers of the first two days of collection of basic necessities which were held on 6 and 13 June.

The Caritas decided to intervene by coordinating these two days carried out in collaboration with the parish Caritas because of the growing situation of need that is felt in the activity of counseling centers in the diocese and that primarily affects families.
In fact, the parish Caritas Archdiocese of Agrigento, daily, they are coming to families and individuals who live in situations of serious marginalization and to meet a growing demand for basic necessities has decided to propose these two days of collection extraordinary.

The goods collected are long-life food (pasta, rice, biscuits, oil, tomatoes, milk, tuna, sugar, corn, beans, coffee), baby products (diapers, pasta, baby food, cheese, fruit juice), household products (detergents, napkins, handkerchiefs), hygiene products (toilet paper, sanitary towels, bath foam, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes).
In detail, here are the numbers of some of the products collected: 3967 kg of pasta and rice 257, 795 packages of biscuits, 92 liters of oil, tomato packs 1933, 1656 milk packs, 715 packs of sugar, 471 cans of tuna , 767 packs of baby food, 736 packs of juice, 72 packages of diapers.
But even hygiene products: 197 detergents, 159 packs of bubble bath, shampoo 152.
The products collected will remain in the local interventions to contrast the poverty made by individual parish Caritas in the diocese.

“The number of products harvested but also the commitment of many volunteers show us that it is possible to build another world – said Valerio Landri, director of the Center for the Charity of the Archdiocese of Agrigento – a company where the attention to the latest and to the suburbs so called by Pope Francis is at the center of pastoral and charitable activity of our parish communities.
It was important – continues Landri – see how many people are involved by sharing their time and their spending to help families and vulnerable people on our territory. These two days were a reminder of Hope proclaimed in the Gospel.
